Just saw a documentary on it. Apparently, it sucks. I knew that. But I saw people whine about it for 2 hours in this documentary without providing any solutions.
These are the things I agree are problematic with the education system:
-extraordinary reliance on testing
-age based levels
-too regimented time line
-repression of creativity and individuality
-how the districts are funded
-apathy
-medications for "behavioral issues"
and so on
What I don't think are problems:
-compulsory schooling
-government funded schooling
-some homework
and so on
Solutions:
-less structured plans
-more choice for students in which classes to take
-critical thinking classes
-higher standards for teachers
-flexibility
-various standards (not a one size fits all type of approach)
and so on
I'm tired, so yeah hahah I'll just stop now....but yeah, this issue really irritates me haha
Yeah, that documentary was odd. Just complained for 90 minutes, and offered no alternatives, no solutions, nothing. Just a 90 minute rant.
ReplyDeleteThere are many problems with public education. But none are resolved by eliminating it.
So many problems, so many solutions, so few people interested in changing that :/
ReplyDeleteHere in Mexico is no different (well, I think it is worse), education is very bad and unfortunately even if people offer solutions the authorities just ignore them :/
Let's change the world!!
