They have an odd system of grading here. It is a scale from 0-100. So far, normal, right? But, get this, 50 is the passing grade (for postgrad students, it's 40 for undergrad students). 60 is the good grade, like a B or something like that in the US. 70 and up is excellent, like an A. Does that make sense? Not to me.... They do grade harder here, and they do not curve grades at all. But still...
Today, I got an email telling me my project proposal was graded. This is the proposal that kept me up all night the last day of the spring semester. I open the grade and sure enough, a 73. It kills me to see grades like these. I know, I know, in theory, it's good. But the thing is that the professors are inconsistent, some professors (very few...) will give a 100! Others, will not even thing about giving anything higher than a 70. Ugh.
Whats the point of the 0-100 scale if they dont use half the scale?!
So, 70 to 100 are to grade excellency? :P. Kind of like saying "most excellent", hahahaha.
ReplyDeletelol yeah, it is odd. But you got an A, so you're fine!
ReplyDeletewtf lol. I see no point to this! (the grading system). But yeah, like Chuy said.. you got an A, good job!

ReplyDeleteWell, as I see it what they are trying to do is give a more accurate grade, in the system they use in Mexico, that is a grade from either 0-10 or 0-100, it is supposed that the 10/100 is the average, but you can't say if someone is above average with that system, like when a teacher says that you are so good that you deserve an 11 :P or the equivalent to a A+++
ReplyDeleteJust take the Gaussian Distribution, the 50 the common people and 100 is the geniuses. At least
lol, that last part didn't make any sense, I wanted to say that write "the ones with a grade of 50 are the people with an average I.Q. and the ones in the 100 are more close to geniuses. At least that's how I see it"
ReplyDeleteI'm still a little sleepy >.<
you have a point there luis...hmmm
