the death of the 550d

As you all know, Chuy took the camera for a wild ride in the water... and it stopped working.  After some days of resting in a bag of rice and being baked (!) by Chuy, it woke up but it was clearly malfunctioning. After an expensive fix up, it started working almost normally again.  Then right before moving to Portland, it refused to power on.  One of the first things we did in Portland was find a camera repair shop to take our dear camera to fix.  We left it there and hoped for the best.  After a week of not hearing anything from the camera technicians, we inquired.  I think they were too scared to give us the bad news, the main board was fried, and they declared it dead (or too expensive to fix, more than the camera's value).

After crying silently (in our heads), we decided to adopt (buy sounds harsh for such a dear member of our family...I am not crazy) another camera.  But which one?  The updated version, 650d, of our deceased camera?  A major step up, a 7d?  We wanted a 7d, but that camera is almost 3 years old and we were hoping the 550d would hold us up until the 7d II came out.  Or maybe the new generation of the 60d (which is the camera between the XXXd and the 7d... but it's not that great of a step up to justify its cost), which sounds promising according to the rumors.  After a lot of frustration, we decided to get a 7d and skip over the next generation (7d II or 70d) that will probably come out later this year or maybe next year, and hopefully the 7d will hold us over until the next, next generation (7d III or 80d).

So we ordered a 7d!!! It was expensive but we got a good deal from a small store in New York, it was better than Amazon, so much better than we even got the 'Accidental Warranty' for 3 years.  And with Chuy...we need it... So the count down starts until the 7d is in our hands!!!!

I know it looks the same as our old camera....

Sorry if I made the post confusing with all the 550d, 7d stuff...for future reference, for Canon, the smaller the number, the better the camera...
